Summer’s Comin’
Monday morning, as I write this, we still have no verdict in the Michael Jackson case. Mark Felt has unmasked himself as Deep Throat, which is rapidly becoming old news. And three celebrity interviews I’m working on for upcoming “Pulse” columns have yet to materialize. So this week, I’m setting my sights on summer. Although it doesn’t officially begin for another two weeks, Memorial Day seems to serve as the unofficial kickoff for the sunny season. This week I want to share with you my top ten favorite things about summer.
10. Long days—More sunlight means more time to do the things that make summer fun and memorable.
9. Party on the Patio—For the last two years, Party on the Patio at Johnny Carino’s has been the perfect way to enjoy Thursday afternoons all summer long. Great drink and appetizer specials and chances to win cool prizes make it a great way to start your weekend a day early. I’m there every other Thursday with Hot 103, enjoying $2 peach Bellinis.
8. Radio Giveaways—Summer somehow means the best radio giveaways. In June, we’re giving away a summer vacation for four to Sea World in
7. Big Concerts—Summer means big concerts. Whether it’s Nelly or Warped, or Anger Management 3, all of your favorite artists are touring. Get to as many concerts as you can; they’re a great way to make summer memories.
6. Wet‘n’Wild—Take a weekend and spend it at the water park in Anthony. With two new rides this season, it’s the perfect way to spend some QT with family or friends while working on your tan.
5. Fireworks—The city’s Fourth of July fireworks show is not to be missed. This year’s headliner is Buddy Guy, blues legend and recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee. Summer ain’t summer without some fireworks.
4. Downtime—Whether you’re in high school or college, or in the workplace, summer seems to provide a lot of downtime. With three perfectly-placed national holidays, you’re guaranteed a little time to hit the lake or fire up the grill.
3. Baseball—Forget about salary caps and steroids, it’s still
2. Barbecues—Nothing, I repeat, nothing beats inviting over a couple of friends and firing up the grill. Do it every weekend if you can. Grilling is truly the spirit of summer, and propane is its lifeblood. Indeed, the only thing better is…
1. String Bikinis!!!
