My Interview With Dolla (R.I.P.)

Below is my interview with Dolla, conducted March 19th, 2008. Today, Dolla was shot and killed at the Beverly Center mall in Los Angeles. I hope that this interview will allow you to get to know Dolla as I did; he was a kind-hearted, talented young artist who was trying to make a name for himself the right way. In his 21 years, he lived a dramatic life--a roller-coaster of unbelievable highs and lows that most eighty-year-olds haven't experienced. Toward the end of the interview, I ask him how he wants to die. I think you'll be touched by his one-word answer.

Here is my interview with Mike Jones. We talk about what Mike's been up to in the 4 years since "Who Is Mike Jones" dropped, his success in the mixtape game, and his life and work before becoming a professional rapper. He debuts his new single, "Next To You," for us, and Mike talks about the record. He also tells us what we can expect from "The Voice," his new CD which is scheduled to drop April 21st.

In the second part of the interview, we talk about the things that inspire Mike, his relationship with the rest of the Houston scene, his family situation growing up, and the role his grandmother played in his life and rap career. Dark Days...

If you're unfamiliar with Marc Singer's "Dark Days," it's time you get familiar. This remarkable documentary was filmed by Singer, after he befriended several homeless people living underground, in an abandoned railway tunnel underneath New York City. Singer had never made a film before, but his experience compelled him to share the lives of these captivating characters that society forgot. It is shot in black & white on a 16mm camera.
